All external elements of the terrace and balcony should protect their structure as much as possible against the destructive influence of weather conditions, and facade surfaces are particularly exposed to their effects.

Water flowing down the facade is particularly dangerous where large amounts of it accumulate. In such a situation, the plasters on the walls or the binders between the ceramic tiles covering the facade may become permanently damp, which favors the development of fungi, algae and mold.


Large amounts of water can also cause leaks and moisture to penetrate the wall. The largest amounts of water flowing down the facade usually occur near terraces and balconies. Their flat surfaces usually accumulate a large amount of rainwater, which must be effectively drained outside. On terraces with a particularly large area, especially those located on the roofs of buildings, an additional drainage system is usually used. However, proper drainage of water from the balcony and terrace surface requires the use of a special roof drip.




THE ROLE OF EAVE PROFILES AND THEIR INSTALLATION


Ready-made aluminum profiles have a special, elongated mounting part, which is embedded in the structure of the ceramic surface. Due to its dimensions, the eaves profile is much less deformable under the influence of temperature. The profiles are embedded in a waterproofing layer, the so-called sealing compound.

The easiest way to install eaves system profiles is to make a special recess on the edges when preparing the screed. This will make it easier to maintain the appropriate inclination and speed up installation. Profiles are installed starting from the corners, using pins with stainless screws or anchors. The profiles are placed on the waterproofing layer, and the connection between the profile and the screed surface is usually additionally secured with an elastic tape. It is also necessary to seal the joints in places where the balcony slab connects to the facade surface.

Correct installation of eaves profiles guarantees complete resistance of the terrace edge to rainwater, provided that appropriate glue and joints intended for outdoor use are used.
